Traveling is normally done in groups, but lately I've been thinking about going alone because it's hard to match the schedule with my friends. Is it too dangerous? What are the differences that I should take note of?

Well it depends on where you will be traveling and how safe the area is. I went to NYC alone and I just made sure that I was aware of my surroundings. Traveling alone can be fun because you don't have to wait for others to be ready or you to don't have to do everything that everyone else wants to do.

Pat44S, I'm actually looking to travel abroad alone because it's one of my dreams to visit many countries in the world. You're right that it's easier to manage our itinerary if we go alone, though it can be rather troublesome when we need to take photos!

Well, there are many factors that go into such matters. I, for one, prefer to go for such travels in groups, whether these are people I know or not. It lowers many risks and is cheaper to boot! ;)

I think it definitely depends on where you are going. Since you want to travel abroad I would suggest that you do travel with a group instead. Sometimes it's better to be with people that know where they are going and can help you really enjoy your destination.

As a woman I would never contemplate travelling alone, no matter how enjoyable I think it would be. It just wouldn't be safe, and for me safety is one of my top values.

I would never consider traveling a long distance alone, especially not at this time of year. This is the time when people will rob you blind because they think you may have a carload of Christmas presents or a wallet full of shopping money. Myself, I do not even like to go to my local stores alone and I always try to get back home as quickly as possible when I have to. This world is just not safe anymore.

I have to agree with all of you that travelling alone for a long distance isn't advisable at all. I like the solitude that comes with being alone but as we all know, the world is no longer a safe place anymore.

If you're unfamiliar with the surroundings or the travel challenges of a particular journey, then I would say to go with several others, at least, to familiarize yourself with the necessities needed to fulfill the trip. After gaining some insight, if repeating the same itinerary, you can then venture out alone.
